2009 and 2010 in Brief

Posted by Dan on January 01, 2010 in The Voyage

I'm a bit behind with the obligatory 2009 wrap up and new years goals post due to traveling and a lack of internet access now I am home again but this is it. Looking back on 2009 I've traveled back to SE Asia twice and had a great time on both occasions (would I have expected anything else?) and I feel like I have prepared a solid launching pad for 2010. By the way my most popular post in 2009 was My Plan to Move to Southeast Asia. So setting some goals for 2010. Earn $1000 a month from online income. Have 10 solid money earning sites ($100mth each) Move abroad. Eliminate deb

Happiness Is The Key To Success

Posted by Dan on November 11, 2009 in The Voyage

I wanted to weigh in quickly on today’s post by Sean Ogle, What defines success? And the comment quoted.. “…you’re just a kid who was likely pampered his whole life growing up, and finally when it was time to be an adult, you had a hard time facing the music that in the real world, nobody cares how much fun you have at your job. You either do it well, or you get fired.” We’ll just ignore the first part because it is a pathetic cheap shot and, well you know what they say about arguing on the internet. I too care if I have fun while doing my job, I also agree that in the “real wo

Am I Working Hard Enough?

Posted by Dan on November 11, 2009 in The Voyage

Working on this Internet marketing stuff to fund my travels happens for me in surges. I’m always working on it but sometimes I’m being a lot more productive than others. I’m often asking myself if I am doing enough. I use RescueTime to track how much time I spend productively working on the projects that will make me money (real work like writing posts, articles and site building), I aim for one hour a day, I probably only achieve that goal 50% of the time but over the course of a week I am on average doing more than an hour daily, unfortunately RescueTime won’t let me set these

On the Origin of Me by Means of Lifestyle Design

Posted by Dan on October 10, 2009 in The Voyage

It is roughly a year since I first read Tim Ferris’ 4 Four Work Week. It’s a great book and has been a catalyst for a big change in how I view life and the world. While it’s not without its flaws the most important concept I think anyone can take from the book is Lifestyle Design. Charles Darwin’s book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection was a revelation; 150 years since its publication we can see that. While early on the concept was used to condone racism and other abominations now we realize there are far better ways we can apply it to things like business

Moonlighting On The Internet

Posted by Dan on October 10, 2009 in The Voyage

A long time ago I stuck some Adsense ads on my site to see what happened, not much. In fact ever since I opened my account I still haven’t broken the $20 mark in the three years I’ve held it. By now it’s clear all I need to start my nomad lifestyle is a measly $30 a day online income. I’ve mentioned it in my plan to move to South East Asia post and more in my $30 a day post. As an internet marketer there is any number of ways to earn this, to date my focus has been on affiliate marketing and text link sales. Text links are easy; affiliates sales require a bit more work. I’m gettin

Sourcecontrol Review: A Guide to Effective Outsourcing

Posted by Dan on October 10, 2009 in The Voyage

Everyone wants to outsource but it can be a minefield for unmet expectations and other difficulties. The answer is in systems. Outsourcing requires systems to be truly worthwhile, without them it can quickly cost you more time than you save so it pays to really know how to effectively use a VA before you jump into hiring one. So I’ve just reread David Walsh’ guide to outsourcing, I’ve been meaning to write about it since I read it the first time but I’m glad I’ve read it again. Visually the book is at the high end as eBooks go, this reflects the quality of the content more
