When in Malaysia, I had one of the best experiences of my trip riding the roads and trails of Sabah with Borneo Biking Adventures.

Good luck with your travel income goals! Your travel plans are somewhat similar to my last year of slowly traveling through southeast Asia, then moving on to Central America.

Awesome, awesome post. After watching Long Way Down, who could resist the temptation to see the world on a motorbike??

I've been reading a few other blogs of people doing a lot of travel by motorcycle and there are plenty accompanied by images of road rash from head to toe, you definitely have to take care of yourself on them, especially when we are talking about Asian traffic and road rules.

Motorcycling has always been a big part of my life. Even living in the U.S., I've gone about a decade with only a motorcycle.

There are "motorcycle people" and Travelers. They often make a great pairing for all the reasons you mentioned.

There are quite a few major places to get an incredible amount of information and motorcycle travel stories from just about any part of the world. At any given time, there are ride reports being written from every corner of the world (not so much Antarctica, though :-)

Hi Dan, thanks for featuring me here on your site! Yeah, buying a used motorbike and sidecar is actually a nice way to exploring a country. I'm really surprised how much support and smiles I get from the locals here.

And you have some good links up there also, the Motorcycle Diaries and "The long Way down" and "Long Way around" are some of my favorites also. I also like the new one "By any means" which features Charly Boorman, the friend and colleague of Ewan McGregor.

Cheers from Bicol/South Luzon (currently)

I've just been reading Nomad4Ever's tricycle exploits too - great stuff. Bikes are awesome but you need to bear in mind the safety aspect - one accident can really mess you up so it pays to be wearing proper clothing and definitely a helmet.
