Travel Money Guide: Travel Debit and Credit Cards for Australians

Posted by Dan on April 04, 2010 in Features, Travel Tips

This is not a paid review post, there are no affiliate links. I just got sick of fees and went looking for a better deal. This has really bugged me, there is heaps of info for foreigners coming to Australia on how to minimise fees with their accounts in their home country or by opening a traveller’s account in Australia. There are not a lot of options for Australians who are trying to be savvy with their money while travelling though. I’ve been digging through forums, credit card sites and more to find what the best deals are and I think I’ve found a few really good ones. Credit Card

TripIt: iPhone App Review

Posted by Dan on March 03, 2010 in Reviews, Travelsphere

TripIt has become my most essential travel app on my iPhone. It is freaking awesome. Many of you will be familiar with it but I want to share why I think it is so good. TripIt basically organizes and creates an itinerary based on your bookings for flights and accommodation, etc. It does this automatically when you forward your booking emails to plans@tripit.com and so far it has done this flawlessly with my bookings. Out of interest I did the same with Dopplr and it couldn’t do it, so it looks like TripIt has the edge there. It’s something where I don’t want to stuff about, whateve

Renting A Motorbike In Thailand

Posted by Dan on March 03, 2010 in Travelsphere

I’ve come to realize that using a motorcycle to see the countries we visit is for me at least possibly the best way of getting around. Increased mobility and independence, locals are more welcoming of motorcycles than cars and buses as they can identify with bikes. It’s all too easy to rent a motorcycle and ride... wherever. It’s also often very stupid. Renting a bike in places like Bali, Thailand and most of SE Asia is as simple as handing over your passport as security and making sure there is fuel in the tank. No license required sometimes no helmet and no need for any previous

Posted by Dan on February 02, 2010 in Features, Worldview

Pakistan gets it's fair share of the media, sadly it is more often than not for something a bunch of fundamentalist nutters have been up to. Pakistan has a lot of natural beauty, particularly in the north and often in disputed regions like Kashmir. Towering mountains with narrow passes and incredible valleys are highlights for adventurous travelers to Pakistan.

Air Asia X Review

Posted by Dan on February 02, 2010 in Reviews, Travelsphere

Budget airlines are a staple for any budget traveller. Last time I flew from Melbourne to Singapore I managed to get tickets with Emirates cheaper than the budgets were offering, the Emirates and a Jetstar flight on the same route boarded at gates opposite each other. The Jetstar flight was near full, Emirates about 30%, I was getting full service on a light plane at about $100 cheaper than the sardines on Jetstar. I'd done my research and it payed off and I wasn't the only budget traveller with a smug look on my face that evening. This time though was high season I couldn't find a deal as goo

2009 and 2010 in Brief

Posted by Dan on January 01, 2010 in The Voyage

I'm a bit behind with the obligatory 2009 wrap up and new years goals post due to traveling and a lack of internet access now I am home again but this is it. Looking back on 2009 I've traveled back to SE Asia twice and had a great time on both occasions (would I have expected anything else?) and I feel like I have prepared a solid launching pad for 2010. By the way my most popular post in 2009 was My Plan to Move to Southeast Asia. So setting some goals for 2010. Earn $1000 a month from online income. Have 10 solid money earning sites ($100mth each) Move abroad. Eliminate deb
