Pororoca is the local name for a tidal bore that produces waves up to 4 meters high on the Amazon River. Surfers and Kayakers are drawn to this phenomenon for the unique experience of surfing for up to 30 minutes on a single wave, over 13 kilometers, on a river. It’s a rare feat and not many can say they have done it.

This video explains some more about how this phenomenon occurs.

And the Kayakers take their turn.

While there are only about 300 tidal bores worldwide only two of them are known to be surfable. The other is the River Severn bore in England.
