Starting my Voyage to Freedom & Adventure
Posted by Dan on May 05, 2009 in The VoyageFor the last 9 months or so I’ve been haphazardly trying to setup my online empire. What I ended up with is a bunch or sites where half the time I typed up a post I couldn’t decide which site I should actually post it to. This site was originally for selling my freelancing skills in WordPress and SEO, I had another infrequently updated travel blog and my personal site.
It just wasn’t working so I decided to set some goals and create a plan that would achieve them.
I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted my sites to be about and clearly defining what the role of each one would be in the bigger picture. I decide to make some sites redundant and completely redefined the purpose of others, now I have a clear plan for all of my sites and writing for them has become much easier. And I’ll follow on with my interest in things like Travel, Digital Nomads, Location Independence, Lifestyle Design and living life as it should be lived.
I’d like to say I deliberately took the Ready, Fire, Aim approach but I would be lying. Although it clearly works. I accept that things will evolve, they always do, but I hope with this new plan I can settle into some really productive blogging and create some quality content instead of scrambling to get posts up on each of them. Blogging if you are determined is definitely a learning experience and if you stick at it long enough you will eventually begin to see what works, you may even get into things like split testing and copy writing which I think gives a very interesting look into your readers habits.
My Goal is to make enough money online from freelancing, blogging and websites using affiliate programs to fund a lifestyle that allows me to travel, try new things and generally enjoy live instead of just feeling like a malcontent like I do in my current work. Others like WorkingNomad, NomadicMatt and Nerdy Nomad prove that it can be done.
With that I welcome you to Voyagner, while I’ve been defining these sites and I know what I’ll be doing here I’m still not quite sure how to describe it for you. Voyagner is about living differently, taking your show on the road, making your life an adventure and hopefully inspiring others out there to follow along in their own way. When I’m on the road I’ll post here on my experiences but it won’t strictly be a travel blog. I hope I can be informative, inspirational and educational for others who are breaking free of the “real world”. I hope to meet you out there one day so that we can share a drink and how choosing to live like this has enriched our lives.
I hope you will follow me on this adventure and take a look at my other sites. I’m also on Twitter and I would love to connect with you on Facebook and Linkedin as well. If you have any suggestions, questions or would like to work with me, contact me! There is not much more important to me than getting to know you all.

Hi there, Dan! I was pretty much in the same situation (tons of websites, no focus). I’m sharing the same aspiration of yours and I’m looking forward to read about your experiences!
Thanks Corrine, I think it is a mistake a lot of people make. I’m just glad I’ve learned from it because I think it is one of the most common hurdles people like us make, many end up just giving up. Having realized it and now correcting it I’m confident I’m now on the right track. Good luck with your own efforts.
Same here, I have about 6 different sites and no focus for any of them.
I quit my job and my last day is Friday and I have absolutely no plan!
I need to get some focus fast. Look forward to reading more..
I’m excited for you Carla, one of my best friends lives in the UK now and makes occasional trips to mainland Europe and more recently Africa. If he is doing that working in a call center and bar tending I’m sure you’ll be fine. Your site looks interesting and I’m pretty impressed with your life list, I’ll be checking back to see what you are getting up to. Good luck.
Hi Dan – Been following you on twitter, and now, just discovered your website. Really enjoying the writing so far – I’m on a similar journey – ready to break out and become LIP. Hopefully I’ll soon have a website. I’ll certainly keep reading about your experiences.
I think we are all keen to get to know each other so let us know when the website is up and always willing to help too if you need a hand.
Definitely looking forward to seeing more from you and keeping up with your travels!
I’m thinking at some point this Location Independent group will have to meet up in some predetermined country for a quick round so we can all shake hands before heading back to our e-lives
